2019.02.21: inexact

only profession

where accuracy counts not

weather theatrics

While I’m thrilled that the snowstorms of the century missed our area again and I sympathize with those who are being hammered, that’s TWICE now that our local weather people have precipitated school and work closings and little or nothing happened. More exasperating is the little one-sixteenth of freezing rain in between these apocalyptic events that they did not forecast which actually caused dozens of accidents on a busy rush hour morning. My tip of the cap to them for the long hours of hard work and dedication to the meteorologists, but please dial back the dramatics.

  1. I admire American forecasters who stick their necks out far more than their British counterparts. Our lot are so risk averse for fear of being called out, that sometimes they underplay big weather events, always erring on the side of caution.
