2015.08.31: child reborn

Jesus said to them, “Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” – Lk 4:22

oh, to be like a child reborn
to look upon all things again
with fresh eyes opened wide
to take in the wonder of the new
and the awe of the unknown

oh, to see like a child reborn
to greet everyone anew
without the learned labels
reaching out to touch all
who comes into vision

maybe then will i witness
the prophet sharing a cup of advice
the priest feeding the hungry many
the king walking empty handed
the Spirit of the Lord in the world

maybe then will i proclaim:
the Spirit the Lord is upon the world
“the Spirit of the Lord is upon me”
“the Kingdom of God is here”
the Kingdom of God is up to me

2015.08.30: welcoming the Word

Humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you and is able to save your souls. – 2 Jas 1:21b-22

words heard but not welcomed
in the soul will not take root
and will die like inert seeds
buried never again to be
seen in the light of day

so also will perish the souls
that do not welcome the Word
taken flesh and blood
their corpses will be buried
never again to see the Light

2015.08.29: way of the follower

So Herod promptly dispatched an executioner with orders to bring back his head. He went off and beheaded (John) in the prison.- Mk 6:27

the world will not affirm
the way that i have chosen

down this path lies
much suffering

you will toil in my name
without recognition

you will decrease
i will increase

you will find your heart
and lose your head

but through it all
i will remain with you

the choice is yours
